Dr. Tara Parra is a registered psychology associate in the state of Maryland. She earned her Doctor of Psychology (Psy.D.) and Master of Arts (M.A.) degrees in Clinical Psychology from the American School of Professional Psychology at Argosy University, in Arlington, Virginia. She completed her APA-accredited predoctoral internship at George Mason University, Counseling and Psychological Services in Fairfax, Virginia offering individual and group therapy as well as various workshops. Dr. Parra has been providing culturally informed and ethical care with clients from diverse cultural backgrounds for over 15 years in a variety of settings, including community-based outpatient behavioral health, residential treatment, college counseling centers and private practice providing individual and group therapy as well as psychological assessments. Dr. Parra has extensive experience working in the context of emotional distress and behavioral issues. They may include relationship stress, transitions, LGBTQIA+ identity development, anxiety, depression, grief and loss, trauma, and general life changes.

Dr. Parra is an intuitive and compassionate therapist who believes that each of us can create a more peaceful and fulfilling life. She uses an integrative therapeutic approach, which includes psychodynamic, cognitive behavioral therapy, mindfulness, and interpersonal psychotherapy, to understand your needs and develop treatment goals collaboratively.  She provides a warm, supportive, caring, collaborative, and nonjudgmental environment in which you can talk openly and honestly about your inner most self. She believes that a warm, authentic, and collaborative relationship is necessary for increasing self-awareness, which leads to healing, the courage to change, and the ability to grow. Dr. Parra can help you reduce your symptoms and feel more in control. She can assist you in identifying your strengths and implementing a strategy for not only coping, but also thriving and learning to love yourself.
