Mr. David Johnson, MSW, LCADC

Licensed Clinical Alcohol and Drug Counselor

...

Mr. Johnson is a licensed graduate alcohol and drug counselor with an extensive career spanning over 20 years working with adolescents and adults struggling with substance abuse and dependence. He earned his Master in Social Work (MSW) from Howard University in Washington, D.C. and worked in various treatment settings with a strong focus on family work and crisis intervention before specializing in substance abuse treatment. Utilizing an interdisciplinary approach, Mr. Johnson is highly regarded in the community and has received referrals from the Department of Juvenile Services, SASCA (Screening and Assessment Services for Children and Adolescents), Street Outreach, as well as Montgomery County Public Schools. He has collaborated with agencies such as the Department of Health and Human Services and Identity, Inc. and was requested to participate in committees such as the The Black and Brown Coalition for Educational Equity and Excellence. Additionally, Mr. Johnson established strong relationships with professionals on both sides of the legal system as the Juvenile Drug Court Case Manager in Montgomery County for many years.

The high prevalence rate of substance abuse among individuals is often underrecognized. Many forms of treatment underestimate the pervasive impact of substance abuse and do not incorporate the unique rippling effect of these disorders. Mr. Johnson has provided educational groups and workshops throughout Montgomery County in an effort to help various agencies gain understanding and training in how to recognize substance abuse issues, identify appropriate treatment options, and engage in a therapeutic alliance. He is available for consultation for individual professionals interested in gaining insight into their clientele as well as larger programs with a need for training and education.
